Welcome to the web site for Myrtle House - a spacious farmhouse situated in South Somerset, between Ilminster and Taunton, and available for self-catering family holidays and short breaks throughout the year. Sleeping 7 guests plus a baby in comfort, the comfortably decorated house provides a wonderful homely feel with good facilities. The house is set in its own land, surrounded by gardens, a paddock, and fields usually grazed by cows and calves, and makes a fantastic base for a relaxing vacation. Myrtle House is situated with easy access to the Devon/Dorset borders and coast, and is also within easy striking distance of many beautiful gardens and attractions.

Easy access

Getting to Myrtle House is easy, with good road access to the A358/M5 and A303. The nearest rail stations are in Taunton and Crewkerne, which both operate good services to/from London. With National Express operating coach services to nearby Ilminster, and airports in Bristol and Exeter, you will be able to reach this property wherever you live!

Families, including the elderly/disabled

Myrtle House has everything you need for a proper, relaxing holiday. The house can comfortably sleep 7, with two double bedrooms, a twin and a single bedroom upstairs - plus a cot and highchair on request for younger guests. It is spacious, having two sitting rooms, and a separate dining room. The house is also equipped to cater for the elderly and disabled, with a stair-lift, ceiling track for a hoist in the downstairs toilet (please enquire for more details about this facility), grab rails near the toilets and "wet shower-room" facilities downstairs and up. Outside, there is ramp access to the house and road.

Even though Myrtle House is no longer an active farm, the fields behind the house continue to be used by a local farmer to graze cows and calves. With livestock so near the house, we very much regret that we have a "no pets" rule with our guests.

Farmhouse with character

Myrtle House was built by my great-grandfather in 1867, but in fact some of the architectural features were reused from an even older house which used to be in one of the fields. Various barns and outbuildings were added since the farmhouse was first built,and now form a quadrangle behind the house.

One of the first things that you will see when you arrive at the house is an enormous American Redwood tree growing next to the entrance gate. Through the gate, at the back of the house, you will find plenty of space to park a number of cars. From here, you can walk through to the rear gardens and paddock, or relax in the shade of a tree. (Our grandson very much enjoys playing cricket here!)
